We’re all connected, and we grow through those connections. No one is an island.
It doesn’t matter if you’re the most popular person in your community or you feel alone. We all have relationships with other people. Some of those relationships bring us good things and some of them don’t. Some of them are strong, and others need work. But they all exist.
The sooner you recognize your connections with other people, the sooner you can lean on those relationships to lead a life of purpose. Who do you spend time with that brings out the greatness in you? Just as important, who do you spend time with that doesn’t? When people ask those questions with you in mind, what do you bring to the relationship? Each of us has a responsibility to use that life of purpose to positively impact the lives of others.
There are times when we need to focus on getting ourselves right before we can focus on helping others. In those times, look to those around you who have overcome similar challenges. Never underestimate the power of learning from someone who’s traveled the path.
On the other hand, when you’re crushing it and are on top of the world, immediately begin looking around to see who could benefit from your service. You undoubtedly overcame some obstacles to reach this peak. Who needs to learn from that experience? How can you share it to benefit others? In working to lift up others and be a rock for them, we strengthen our own senses of purpose.
Though you define your own success and are the only one who make sure you reach it, the community around you has the tools to help. Use them.
