My experience as a business owner is an emotional roller coaster. There are days when our company is running so smooth that you get all tingly on the inside. Other days you want to turn off the lights and lock the door for good.
What I have learned from this is to handle the emotional roller coaster with a long-term view. Not every single day is going to be the greatest day ever when it comes to business. Some days machines break, employees don’t show up or a large account walks out the door. Those aren’t good days. The reality is you will be okay as long as your drive and persistence to be great are there.
I believe building a business for long term sustainability will create the greatest foundation for success. If you let the emotional roller coaster get to you too much you eventually become nauseous from the ups and downs. Planning for the long term allows you to not ignore the ups and downs but handle them knowing that they aren’t permanent or going to ruin the business.
